SEAI Solar Panel Grants Cork | 2026 Solar PV Grant Guide

SEAI Solar Panel Grants Cork: Apply Before You Install

Cork homeowners can currently claim a domestic SEAI Solar PV grant of up to €1,800 for eligible solar panel installations. The key rule is simple: your grant application must be approved before works begin.

SEAI Solar PV Grants for Cork Homes in 2026

SEAI's domestic Solar Electricity Grant helps eligible Cork homeowners reduce the upfront cost of installing solar PV panels. It is not a discount that can be applied after the fact. The grant process needs to be built into the project from the start.

Cork homeowners, landlords, businesses and farms should confirm the correct grant route, installer requirements and approval timing before any solar PV work begins.

Updated April 2026: SEAI lists the domestic Solar PV grant as €700 per kWp up to 2kWp, then €200 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp, capped at €1,800.

€1,400

Example domestic grant value for a 2kWp solar PV system.

€1,600

Example domestic grant value for a 3kWp solar PV system.

€1,800

Maximum domestic Solar PV grant for a 4kWp system.

Solar PV Size SEAI Domestic Grant What It Means
Up to 2kWp €700 per kWp Grant support scales with the first 2kWp of system output.
Over 2kWp to 4kWp €200 per additional kWp Additional support is available above 2kWp until the cap is reached.
4kWp and above Maximum €1,800 Larger domestic systems may be suitable, but the grant remains capped.

Solar Grant Support Is Also an Installation Quality Question

Grant paperwork matters, but solar PV is still electrical work. A good installation needs correct design, safe connection, testing, commissioning and clear documentation so the system performs properly after the grant process is complete.

Who Can Apply for SEAI Solar Panel Grants in Cork?

For domestic solar PV grants, SEAI lists eligibility requirements around applicant type, property age, MPRN and previous grant funding. The installer and equipment also need to meet scheme requirements.

Always check the live SEAI scheme before committing to a project, because grant terms can change.

Domestic applicants

  • Homeowners, including private landlords
  • Owner management companies
  • Approved Housing Bodies
  • Homes with an MPRN, built and occupied before 2021

Non-domestic applicants

  • Eligible businesses and farms
  • Schools and public sector bodies
  • Community centres and non-profit organisations
  • Grant values based on standard system output

Important approval timing

For domestic Solar PV grants, SEAI states that approval must be in place before proceeding with works. If the scope changes, such as system size or selected company, SEAI may need to approve that change before works start.

How to Apply for SEAI Solar Panel Grants in Cork

A strong grant process is clear before the first panel is installed. These steps keep the project organised and help avoid avoidable delays.

Check the property and applicant

Confirm the home or non-domestic property fits the relevant SEAI scheme, including MPRN, property age, ownership and previous grant history.

Choose a registered solar PV company

Select an appropriate SEAI-registered company or installer and agree the proposed system, equipment, cost, timeline and documentation responsibilities.

Apply before installation starts

Submit the grant application and wait for SEAI approval before works begin. Keep an eye on the grant offer details and expiry timeline.

Install, test and close out

Complete installation, commissioning, Safe Electric certification where required, ESB forms, photographs and other documentation needed for grant completion.

Domestic vs Non-Domestic Solar PV Grants

Cork homeowners and Cork businesses may be looking for different SEAI grant schemes. Domestic Solar PV grants are capped at €1,800. Non-domestic solar PV support can be much larger, but the rules, documentation and installer registration requirements are different.

Grant Route Who It Is For Current Grant Signal
Domestic Solar PV Grant Eligible homeowners, landlords, OMCs and AHBs Up to €1,800 for eligible domestic solar PV installations
Non-Domestic Microgen Grant Eligible businesses, farms, schools, community groups and non-profits Grant value is based on standard output, with SEAI listing support up to €162,600 for larger eligible systems

What Documents and Checks Usually Matter?

Grant-supported solar PV work usually needs more than a quote. It needs the correct application route, installer registration, commissioning information and close-out paperwork. For non-domestic projects, SEAI scheme documents list required items such as inspection and testing reports, Safe Electric certification, ESB Networks NC6 form submission, invoices and photographs of the installed system.

  • Before installation: confirm grant route, property eligibility, system size and selected installer.
  • During installation: keep access clear and make sure electrical work is completed by qualified professionals.
  • After installation: gather commissioning, testing, ESB and grant close-out documents.

Frequently Asked Questions About SEAI Solar Grants in Cork

How much can Cork homeowners claim?

Eligible domestic applicants can claim up to €1,800 for solar PV. The grant is €700 per kWp up to 2kWp, then €200 for each additional kWp up to 4kWp.

Can work start before grant approval?

No. SEAI states that domestic solar PV grant approval must be in place before proceeding with works. Starting too early can put grant payment at risk.

Are battery grants included?

Battery storage should be assessed separately from the solar PV grant decision. Check current SEAI and Revenue guidance on suitability, costs and tax treatment before you commit.

Do businesses and farms use the same scheme?

No. Eligible businesses, farms and organisations generally look at the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant rather than the domestic Solar PV grant.

Do I need planning permission?

Many domestic solar PV installations are exempt, but protected structures, conservation areas and unusual installations may need extra checks. Confirm before work begins.

How long does the grant process take?

Timelines vary by application, installer availability and documentation. Domestic applicants have 8 months from grant approval to complete works and submit required documentation.

A trip switch went off on Sunday night around midnight. All lights went out & burglar alarm went off. I tried to turn on relevant trip switch but it would not turn back on. I had to do something as next door neighbour had leaving cert exam next day. I knew it would be expensive to get an electrician in an emergency but had no choice. I googled “electrician cork emergency”. The first 24 hour service number I rang just rang out & nobody rang back. The second number I rang was 021 Electrician and Brian answered within a few rings. I explained problem & he said that if he had to call out he would have to charge so he would talk me through fix. First suggestion did not work so Brian kept going with more suggestions until lights came back on & alarm went off. I was very thankful & insisted on paying but Brian would not take any money. Unbelievable service!! I will definitely use 021 Electrician in future

We have just had 021 install Solar Panels for us. The process with them from start to finish was ultra professional. Dylan and Brian went through everything beforehand, they took care of installation, Grant Application and the BER cert. Dom, Pa, Cian and Luke are brilliant tidy electricians, Mark who mounted the panels was also excellent. For anyone thinking of getting Solar Panels installed or need any other electrical work done I highly recommend @021electrician. Pat & Helen O Sullivan
